Empowering of Commercial Nuclear Trading between India and USA

Following the recently concluded 'famous' civil nuclear agreement between the India and the USA, the joint task force brushed out their 5th meeting on commercial nuclear cooperation in Washington DC on 16th October, 2008. The meeting was held in the premises of the US Chamber of Commerce. The aforesaid joint task force was formed in the year 2006 with a purpose of facilitating the active participation and role play by the private enterprises of both nations-India and USA, in bolstering the commercial nuclear trade and dealing with the various issues and concerns related to it. Esteemed representatives from the private sectors of both India and USA, participated in the task force meeting along with the US Department of Commerce, US Department of State, US Department of Energy and Embassy of India. The list of the people attended the joint task force meeting, along with these, also included representatives from the Universal Infra Consultants, Tata Power, Tata Engineering Consultants, Punj Lloyd, Bharat Forge, NTPC, GE, Bechtel, 3M, Nuclear Energy Institute, Stonebridge International, Thorium Power, Uranium One, and Westinghouse. The deliberation was co-chaired by Mr. Tim Richards from the General Electric and S A Bohra of Tata Power. The task force meeting proposed out the plan, which will be executed in next steps during the nuclear commercial trading between the super power and the emerging country i.e, USA and the India. These aid meeting is said to open the new avenues in laying out the new agenda for the coming USIBC (US India Business Council)-led Civil Nuclear delegation, coming to India during the end of the year 2008.

During the 5th meeting meeting on commercial nuclear cooperation, the discussions were tabled around in creating the new pathways for finding the new trading opportunities in the nuclear space. Many detailed rounds were happened for enlisting the anticipated procedures and various process, which will in turns prove to be effective for both the Indian and US companies during their effective participation in the nuclear space. The meeting analyzed the present scenario and featured out the future of the nuclear space. Moreover, there were some important issues which were highlighted and discussed by both the sides-

  • Chances of formulating the alliances and undergoing into the collaborative partnerships with a view of forming the strategy for enhancing the bilateral trading with the help of commercial nuclear cooperation
