The landlocked country of the western africa, mali has been recognized as the seventh largest nation in throughout the africa. Mali borders the algeria from the northern direction, niger from the eastern. It is bordered by burkina faso and cote d'ivoire from the southern side. Guinea, senegal with mauritania, are situated on the south-west and west sides respectively. Mali is blessed with natural resources like gold, phosphates, kaolin, salt, limestone, uranium, gypsum, granite. Mali has 8 regions and has 1 district. The country is vested on total 1.24 million sq km area. Mali has derived its musical tradition from the griots. In mali 1% of the population is christian, 90% is Muslim and 9% have traditional religions.
